Dastras is an NGO that focuses on nurturing and enabling the underprivileged in our society. We are a safe space for children and women, providing education and vocational training and restoring their life choices to make them productive members of society.
OUR STORY
The story starts with a group of friends, with a shared desire to help those in need. What began as a small effort to help the communities around, quickly picked pace and as word spread of their work, more people come to join them. With no access to education and resources, these kids were stuck in a spiral of poverty and despair. Soon, the group found themselves running an NGO that provides education to underprivileged children.
What brought Dastras together was the thought of ennobling human lives through access to education and employable skills for livelihood earning. The group continues its work by reaching out to more communities, providing books and equipment, training teachers, and working towards getting the children admitted into higher educational institutes. And reaching out to youth and women of these communities with vocational skills that can equip them to stand on their own feet.
Today, the people behind Dastras continue to bring a better chance at life to the children, youth, and women in the local communities in Pakistan.

Dastras’s mission is to empower underprivileged children, youth and women to reach their full potential by providing them with access to quality education, and opportunities for growth through vocational training.
We strive to create a safe and encouraging environment where children can explore their interests, develop valuable skills, and nurture self-confidence to become lifelong learners and positive contributors for the society. Through our holistic approach, we aim to bridge the gap between socio-economic disparities and educational opportunities so that all children can reach their highest potential and simultaneously, the women can find employment opportunities.
LEADERSHIP TEAM
Shaiza Shahid
Ms. Shaiza Shahid is an educationist by profession. Her interest in developing learner autonomy especially among the under privileged is the founding principle behind many projects of Dastras Foundation. She believes that given the right environment, everyone can live upto his/her full potential.
Arooj Salman
An educationist by profession, Ms. Arooj is a women’s rights activist and a philanthropist. She has taught at Aitchison, Froebels and Beaconhouse School System for more than a decade.
Ms. Faiza Haider
Ms. Faiza Haider holds an MBA degree from LUMS and runs a furniture business in Pakistan and Dubai. She believes that every child should have access to quality education.
